Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has questioned the Football Association’s decision to appoint Thomas Tuchel as manager.
The German is the third foreign manager in England’s management. After Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello, and given his success, Tuchel has great qualities. But Wenger believes the manager should be a national.
“I just felt – if it happened – if I was the England manager and I was playing against France, I couldn’t sing the French national anthem,” Wenger told beIN Sports.
“For me, I prefer a manager who is from that country. Why do the players have to be from that country and the manager is not? There are many judgments.”UFABET
“I think he’s a great coach and the right choice, but he’s not English. But it’s already been appointed, so there’s nothing wrong with that.”
To that end, Wenger said he would have felt “uncomfortable” managing Germany.
He then doubled down on previous statements where he had said England should take an English manager.
He continued: “I haven’t changed my mind. Now they appoint Tuchel. I think Tuchel is a perfect coach and a perfect candidate, but he’s not English.
“I just feel – to make it as simple as possible – If I’m the manager of England and I play against France I cannot sing the national anthem of France.”
