Real Madrid came back from 2-0 down to Borussia Dortmund at half-time in dramatic fashion. Before the Bernabeu hit back five times in the second half to secure a 5-2 win thanks to a hat-trick from Vinicius Junior. And Figo believes the Blancos’ turnaround is becoming routine.
‘Is it normal for this situation to happen in the Champions League? The scoreboard and the atmosphere that Real Madrid has and the quality. That Real Madrid has, it makes it more than just a result.’ Figo said.
The former star also spoke about playing at the Santiago Bernabeu and whether the atmosphere in the Champions League really has that much of an impact on the game.
‘I think playing for Madrid in that stadium, with all the support we get in the Champions League. It’s a very conducive environment. I was telling my friends that the second half is not here yet. Will every game against Real Madrid be very long at the Bernabeu?’
‘It’s the connection between people, players and situations. It gives you more energy, more intensity, so it helps you compete and helps you achieve your goals.’
When asked about Saturday’s ‘El Clasico’ clash between two top-flight teams. Who have both enjoyed impressive performances in the Champions League in midweek.
‘El Clasico is always an unpredictable game, everyone wants to be in the game. There are a lot of competitors, a lot of aggression. It doesn’t matter how well one team plays because the result is unpredictable. It will be a good game, Madrid will have a bit of an advantage. Because they are playing at home and they have to win to be the top team,’ Figo said.
Figo was also asked about Barcelona’s form. And the talent of the exciting youngsters coming through the ranks alongside experienced striker Robert Lewandowski.
‘Yes, it’s a mix of experience and young talent, but young talent with quality and talent. If you don’t have those things, you can’t do it. Lewandowski, he’s doing what he’s been doing all his career.’
